WATER WAREHOUSING IN SOUTH AUSTRALIA
Water
Warehousing in South Australia takes place by the purchase of New South Wales properties
in the Riverina with the subsequent temporary lease of their water entitlements to
properties in South Australia. The purchase price of the water entitlements is between
$380 and $550 per million cubic meters.
The
properties are then leased back to the former owners to remove the buyer from day-to-day
running of the property in New South Wales. Some water can remain on the property
for gardening and other low use purposes.
Presently, however, water entitlements cannot be transferred or leased permanently outside
of New South Wales to South Australia. Water users must comply with all applicable
environmental laws. |
